Dr Mark Cronshaw BSc (Hons), BDS, LDS RCS (Eng), M.Sc. Professor a.c. Department of Surgical Sciences and Integrated Diagnostics, University of Genoa, Italy. Dr Mark Cronshaw trained at Guys Hospital in London. He graduated in 1981 with a degree in biomedical sciences before completing his dental studies in 1984. He is a private practitioner in Cowes, Isle of Wight.
Dr Cronshaw has used lasers in his daily clinical practice since 2005 and he maintains a busy private general practice in Cowes UK. He was appointed a Professor a.c. at the University of Genoa in 2014 and he lectures on oral laser applications courses Worldwide. He was awarded the Fellowship of the World Class Laser Institute in 2009 and he is highly active in laser education as a trainer and lecturer.
In 2012 he was awarded the prestigious Fellowship award of the International Academy of Dento-Facial Esthetics. Dr Cronshaw is on the editorial peer review panel of the journal Lasers in Medical Science and is on the Board of Laser Education International.
Dr Cronshaw has written many articles on the clinical applications of lasers in dentistry and he is actively involved in continued research. He has co- authored a number of papers presented at the World Federation of Laser Dentistry in Paris (2014) and the Euro-perio meeting in London (2015). A peer reviewed retrospective study on peri-implantitis management was published in the British Dental Journal. More recently he co-authored a paper on the laser assisted management of adult chronic periodontal disease with Dr Al-Falaki and Dr Steven Parker. He is a contributing author to the most recent edition of the recent textbook on photo medicine “Atlas of Laser Therapy” which introduced the highly innovative Genoa flat top handpiece technique for predictable clinical outcomes in photobiomodulation. Also, Dr Cronshaw is a contributory author and wrote a chapter on the application of phototherapy to accelerate orthodontic tooth movement and alleviate pain in the new text “Lasers in Dentistry: Current Concepts”, editors Steven Parker and Don Coluzzi, published by Springer in October 2017. His clinical interests are in phototherapy, aesthetic dentistry, holistic dental care, minimally invasive dentistry as well as the application of laser therapy as an adjunct to tissue regeneration in periodontics and surgery. Dr Cronshaw is actively involved in clinical research into laser tissue interaction with regard to clinical phototherapy.
