Tomasz Konopka - born in Ostrów Wielkopolski in 1964. 1988 - he graduated summa cum laude from Wrocław Academy of Medicine, Medical Department, Stomatology Faculty, and joined the Non-Invasive Stomatology Section and Unit of Wrocław Academy of Medicine. 1993 - he became a consultant in periodontology and graduated from the PhD programme in medicine (doctoral thesis: Impact of surgical and pharmacological treatment on the activity of neutrophils in progressive periodontitis). Since 1995 - the Periodontics Unit of Wrocław Academy of Medicine. 1999 - he graduated from the postdoctoral programme at Szczecin Academy of Medicine (postdoctoral thesis: Role of cytokines, adhesive particles, heat shock proteins and immune response in periodontitis). Since 2014 - also at Medical University of Łódź. Since 2009 - professor titular and since 2012 full professor.
Since 2001 - editor of the Dental and Medical Problems quarterly. Member of scientific boards: Journal of Stomatology, Dental Forum, eDentico, Stomatologia estetyczna and Implantologia, Paradontologia, Osteologia (Ukraine). Former Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry of Wrocław Academy of Medicine (2005-2008) and Chairman of the Periodontology Section of the Polish Dentistry Association (PTS) (2000-2004). Since 2013 - member of the Medical Section of the Central Academic and Scientific Degrees and Titles Commission. He published 305 scientific papers and congressional reports. The publications’ focus: pathogenesis of periodontitis, connections between periodontitis and systemic diseases (periodontal medicine), diagnostics and epidemiology of periodontal diseases, periodontal treatment with a focus on mucous membrane and gums surgery, oral mucous membrane diseases - epidemiology, aetiology, clinical imaging and treatment. Thesis supervisor in doctoral degree procedures: 9 complete and 1 in progress, and supervisor of 14 periodontics specialists.
Hobby: Latin American literature and sports (active: skiing, fan: soccer).
